Vision: Limelight 3 Excerpt

Four years earlier

“Babe.” Her husband leaned down from behind the couch and kissed her neck.

“Hey, honey.”

“We still on for the show tonight?” He walked to it and flopped down on the oversized seat across from her and turned the TV on but kept the sound low.

“Of course, we are. Why wouldn’t we be?” She never looked up from him as she typed.

“Because…you’re barely paying any attention to me now while you’re working on a new formula for that foundation of yours. You’ll let it consume you into the wee hours of the morning and our movie plans will go abandoned.”

Not paying attention to him, she continued typing.

“Shannan?”

“Hunh?” she responded but didn’t look up at him.

“Shannan,” he said as he got up from his chair and went and stood in front of her. “Shannan?”

“What, Steven?” She didn’t even look up at him as she sat up Indian style with her eyes glued to the screen.

“Hey, look at me.” He reached down to grab her computer, but she swatted his hand away.

“Steven, you know not to touch my computer,” she hissed.

“And sometimes I know not to touch you,” he mumbled under his breath and she cut her eyes at him.

“What does that mean?” She paused from her work and looked up at him, awaiting his response.

He merely stared at her as if she already knew the answer to her question.

“I’m waiting.” Her head snapped to the side.

Rather than add more fuel to the fire he knew he’d lit in her, he decided to stoke it with a gentler approach. He rounded the couch and stood behind her as he began to knead away the tension in her neck.

She wanted to keep working on her laptop, but his skilled fingers made her eyelids flutter from the glorious sensations his fingers impressed on her skin and nerves.

When her head fell back at the submission of his hands, he leaned down and sucked her exposed neck.

“Mmh. You always smell good.”

“So do you.” She sniffed his chin.

Still kissing her neck, he said, “It’s time, baby.”

“It’s time for what?” She giggled as his hands inched down her body.

“It’s. Time. To. Have. My. Baby.” He punctuated each word with a kiss to her neck and finally to her lips.

She stiffened.
